I Am Fat
by leslie kindel - Thursday, June 12 2008, 07:57 AM
Anyone in the world
By Paul Arbic Every day that goes by brings its lot of joy and pain, isn't it? Well for most of us anyway. That goes for the "normal" people. But for the" fat people" which have to overcome the" I am fat and ashamed of it" feeling, every day brings a surplus of ache. How to overcome that feeling? First of all, pain seems always more bearable when you know that you are not the only one. No, you are not alone. For some obvious reason, the victim syndrome is definitely not a good feeling to dwell upon. For myself, when I go through a bad day or have some bad news, I put things into perspective. It's easy to lose sight of the overall picture. So take a few minutes and step back from the situation and calmly think of it as a whole. Sometime we lose sight of the forest because we are to close to the tree. You are fat but you are not alone, far from it! Second thing I do is thinking of a problem not as a problem but as a challenge. The word challenge triggers an active positive reaction to a situation. We all love a good challenge from a friend don't we? Well guess who is your best friend in this case? You are your best friend and you are also the solution to your fat challenge. Give yourself a challenge. But most important, stop thinking about the past or the future, think about the present. What can you do today about your weight? Not tomorrow, today! And stop thinking about what you could have done in the past. Today is where and when things happen. The universe is dynamic and not static. That means if you put something into motion today there will be a reaction. But if you wait for action to happen you will wait for a long time. You have to create the impulse to put things into motion. It all comes from YOU and your decision today, not yesterday, not tomorrow. If you want something to happen you have to put it in motion first. Here is an example to illustrate this theory: 1- Lets say you want to go to see a movie with some friends. Would you wait until someone calls you? It would be a long wait, wouldn't it? No one even knows that you'd like to go see a movie. After a while you would throw a self-pity party because no one called you. That would be silly. 2- Another thing you can do is to call you friends and ask them if they would like to go see a movie but you don't specify which movie and at what time. One friend wants to go see an action movie while the other wants to go see a romantic one and so on. So, everyone is confused and after deliberation they will probably say no. You lose interest and you stay home feeling frustrated and unwanted. Back to the self-pity party. This is not the best approach. The "problem" is you didnt really know for sure what you wanted. Actually you expected your friends to take the decision for you. We are all a bit lazy and we love it when someone takes decision for us. If something goes wrong it's so easy to blame someone else! 3- A better way would be that YOU decide which movie, when and where exactly you want to go. And only after you have made up your mind, you call your friends and tell them YOU are going to see a specific movie at a specific time and they are welcome to join you. You will be surprise of the reaction! You see, people are hard to put into motion but if you are already in motion they will be more than happy to join the movement because its a lot easier to jump on a moving wagon than to put one into motion from a stand still. Now this is all nice Paul but what does it have to do with me being fat? Actually, nothing and everything. This principle works for all area of your life. But, if you are fat and want to do something about it, the worst thing you can do is to wait for a solution that will never arrive. You have to put yourself into motion towards a solution. If you have the vision where you want to go and start moving, you have way better chance to get there than if you dont know where you're going while not moving at all. Dont you think so? Now the secret is ACTION and MOTIVATION. Action is a must but you need motivation, which will act as the fuel to keep you in motion. My friend, take action now and the universe will join you because YOU decided where you want to go and which "movie" you want to see. Dont make the mistake to wait for things to happen Put yourself into motion today. That will give you the greatest feeling. You will feel empowered instead of your overweight low esteem feeling. You are fat but doing something about it. You have the power, not yesterday, not tomorrow but today! The universe is waiting for your call. Shrub Roses and Climbing Roses
by leslie kindel - Saturday, June 7 2008, 09:14 PM
Anyone in the world
By Briscoe White Here are a few shrub roses and climbing roses that we have focused on this spring. Austrian Copper is a rose that has been grown since the 1500s. The flowers are single with petals that are orange-scarlet on top and yellow underneath. The vivid blooms come in early summer on bushes that grow 4 to 6 feet high. F. J. Grootendorst has double red flowers that bloom in midseason. The flowers that bloom may grow 8 feet tall but can be pruned to any desired height. This variety grows well in a pot and tolerates more shade than most roses. Sir Thomas Lipton White double flowers come early in the season and are very fragrant. Bushes with deep green, leathery foliage may stand 6 feet tall or more. Therese Bugnet blooms in spring or early summer, has red buds that open to become fragrant, double pink flowers. The foliage is blue green on bushes 4 to 6 feet tall. Viking Queen is a climber that can be grown on a small trellis or a wall. It will grow 12 to 15 feet. The flowers are pink, 3 to 4 inches across and grow in clusters. The foliage is dark green and glossy. Gold Rush is a strong climber that grows 7 to 10 feet. The yellow flowers are large and fragrant. In 1985, Briscoe White opened The Growers Exchange in an abandoned Texaco station on a busy urban street corner in Richmond, Virginia. The facility has grown over the years, and is now 5 distinct growing environments with 5 acres under cover. Briscoe has over 25 years of gardening experience. Yoga Proving Popular for Kids
by leslie kindel - Tuesday, June 3 2008, 08:12 PM
Anyone in the world
By Nancy Wile You may know the benefits of yoga for adults, but do you know about all the benefits your kids can gain from a little yoga practice each week? Yoga is rapidly gaining favor as both an alternative and a complement to traditional kids sports. It is yogas wide range of benefits that is making it increasingly popular with all types of kids. Physically, yoga improves kids strength and flexibility, as well as their balance and coordination. Mentally, its breathing exercises improve kids ability to focus and relieve anxiety. What can yoga offer my child? The ability to control stress Children are sometime under a great deal of stress. Yoga can help your child learn how to relax. Through yoga, your child learns how to breathe correctly, taking longer, slower breaths, and relaxing his body through breath. He can then apply this to his world when he encounters challenging situations. A healthier body Did you know that 17.1% of children from the ages of 2-19 years of age are facing obesity in the United States?1 Thats 1.1 million children! The good news is there are great benefits from practicing yoga. Yoga is a powerful technique for children to begin moving their bodies in ways that feel good, as well as learning to take care of and respect their bodies. Yoga can also help your child become stronger, and gain endurance and flexibility. If your child is involved in another sport, a regular yoga practice is a great cross training activity and can help reduce the risk of injuries. Yoga also promotes good posture, as well as improved stability and balance. Increased self-esteem Kids yoga is a non-competitive activity; theres no winning or losing. Yet it does offer your child the ability to master challenging poses (especially as she gets older). Your child can feel good about her increasing ability without having to worry about how she compares to everyone else. This experience of success can help your child feel more confident in her ability to be successful in other things too. Greater concentration Yoga helps kids develop more focus. In yoga, kids learn how to focus on what they are doing in the moment and let go of distractions and worries. The breathing and inward focus that is a main component of any yoga practice can help your child learn to focus his mind more effectively. A number of studies have shown that many children who practice yoga, especially those with problems such as ADHD, are able to concentrate for longer periods of time. What is a kids yoga program like? The main focus of a child yoga program is on fun. Often the children will pretend to be the animal for which the pose is named. Kids are encouraged to fully participate in and enjoy the game of yoga. Sometimes an instructor will create an entire story about the poses that the kids are in so as to make the class interesting and to fully engage them. How can I get my child started in yoga? To get your child started in yoga you can: 1) ask local studios and community centers if they offer yoga classes for kids; 2) ask a local yoga instructor if he or she would be interested in teaching a class after school at your childs school; or 3) have your child try a mixed-level or beginning level adult yoga class with you. Ive found that kids ages 9 and up usually do very well and enjoy coming to adult classes with a parent. Try a mixed level or beginning class (no hot yoga for young bodies) and check with the instructor ahead of time to make sure its okay to bring your child. How can I find a qualified instructor? You can find a qualified instructor through the Yoga Alliance (www.yogaalliance.org). Teachers registered with the yoga alliance have a minimum of 200 hours in person teacher training, where they learn how to sequence yoga postures and develop well rounded classes, and where they complete coursework in anatomy, physiology, exercise science, meditation, pranayama (breathing techniques), history of yoga, etc. If your teacher is not registered with the Yoga Alliance make sure that anyone who teaches your child has some background in anatomy, physiology and exercise science to ensure your childs safety and reduce the risk of injury. Ask any instructor how long they have been teaching and practicing yoga and about the style(s) of yoga they teach. Yoga can benefit your childs mental and physical growth and development in many ways. The important thing is to keep it fun and simple, so your kids feel comfortable, safe and happy throughout their yoga practice. Benefits of Yoga for Kids It is absolutely safe for your child. It teaches children about their body in a fun manner. Yoga games and asanas (stretching exercises) are approachable and fun for kids. It is non-competitive everyone wins in yoga. It prevents obesity and helps those who are overweight become more healthy. It helps children to relax. It builds stamina, stability and balance. It helps improve digestion, elimination of toxins and circulation. It helps develop strong bodies, elongates the spine and promotes good posture. It improves breathing habits through gentle breathing exercises. It improves sleeping patterns. It improves memory and develops effective concentration skills. It reduces sports injuries by strengthening and stretching opposing muscles, developing balance and resilience in those muscles. Nancy Wile, Ed.D., founder of Yoga To Go, is a registered yoga teacher with a doctorate in education. She created the wildly popular Yoga To Go for Kids DVD, which provides kids and parents with a fun approach to yoga. Chain Swings or Rope, and Why It Matters
by leslie kindel - Friday, May 30 2008, 06:21 AM
Anyone in the world
By Mayoor Patel Probably one of the last things on your mind when you're trying to choose an outdoor swing set is whether the swings should hang on chains or on ropes. Such choices are often left to the asthetics of the lawn, or to whatever the particular swingset you happen to like, happens to have. But the question is, in fact, rather more important than you might think. Both options have considerable advantages and disadvantages, and it's worth keeping them in mind as you shop for the perfect swingset. Rope swings are undoubtedly the most attractive of the two, and they have the advantage of being fairly easy on the hands. But ropes can be damaged by weather conditions, and they have to be replaced regularly--at least once a year--in order to ensure that the swingset continues to be safe. Some ropes have been treated to make them weather proof; ask your salesman if the ropes have recieved this treatment. On the one hand, it might sound like a good idea, since ropes will have to be replaced less often, and will be stronger throughout their lifetime, but in fact, those ropes have been treated with chemicals, and while they're probably safe in the short term, it's unlikely that any long term studies have been done on their effects to children who use them regularly. If your child is at all likely to play on a swingset for long periods of time, and to keep doing it for several years, treated ropes are probably *not* the way to go. At first glance, chains would seem to be the more dangerous and less pleasant of the options; after all, who hasn't had their hand pinched when they were swinging as a child? But in fact, all chains are not created equal. In general, there are two sizes of chains; one is the small one that you see on most home swingsets, and the other is the thick, stout, smooth chain which you see on swingsets at most parks. The first one is stronger and more durable than rope, but a child's hand can get pinched in it rather easily. It's not fatal or anything, but it does hurt like crazy. Get pinched frequently enough, and it's enough to make you go off the idea of swingsets as a form of recreation. By far the best of the three choices is the commercial chain such as you find on swingsets at parks. The bad news is, it can be difficult to find these for non-commercial, home use; the good news is, it's getting easier, as more and more parents realize that these are the most effective and safest form of suspension for swingsets anywhere. Mother's Day Jewelry-6 Tips for Selecting the Perfect Gift
by leslie kindel - Tuesday, May 27 2008, 08:09 PM
Anyone in the world
By Lynne Hinz As Mothers day approaches many of us think about the extraordinary women who shaped our lives. Many people not only honor their mother on Mothers Day, but also like to give gifts to grandmothers, aunts, sisters and nurturing friends. Jewelry is an excellent gift to give at Mothers Day. Jewelry fits everyone and can be cherished for years to come. Unlike chocolate which is fattening, and perfume which can cause allergic reactions, jewelry is one of the safest gifts you can give. However, its important that you select the right piece of jewelry. 1. Pick a piece of jewelry that will reflect her lifestyle. Does person you are buying for dress up or does she have a casual wardrobe? Does she like bright colors or prefer neutral? Does she like large, eye catching pieces, does she wear whimsical pieces, or is she into something understated? 2. Pick out something personal. Custom made jewelry can be surprisingly affordable. You may be able to purchase a custom made bracelet or necklace and select birthstones, design features, and special beads or crystals, for the same price as a premade manufactured piece. Think about things your mother or friend loves to do. Maybe you want to add a special charm or order a bracelet using her favorite colors. 3. Select something thats easy care and easy wear. A stretchy bracelet makes an excellent gift for a woman who has a physical impairment such as arthritis, ms, or a stroke survivor. Look for gifts that are durable and that do not require expensive cleaning. 4. Find out about possible skin allergies. A small percentage of the population suffers allergic reactions to low grade silver and gold. By selecting a custom necklace or bracelet, you can order your jewelry with the type of products that will not cause an allergic reaction. For example, maybe your mother would do better with a leather necklace or high-end bracelet that meets a specific minimum grade of silver or gold. 5. Select something unique. There are several advantages to selecting a unique piece of jewelry; it creates a lasting memory, it makes the person wearing it feel special, and it gives the person wearing the jewelry an opportunity to talk about the gift giver. And lets face it, moms love to talk about their children. 6. Order the correct size. A stretchy bracelet will fit anyone. Bracelet and necklace sizes are determined by measured inches from tip-to-tip. Typical bracelet sizes are 6, 6.5, 7, and 7.5. If you dont know what size to order, select a size 7, which is an average length. Necklaces come in a variety of lengths. A 15 inch necklace will feel like a comfortable choker on most women. A size 17 necklace will hang loosely around the neck. If the special woman in your life carries extra weight in her face and neck, shell probably enjoy a 17 or even an 18-inch necklace more than a 15-inch necklace. Lynne Hinz creates personalized jewelry for women, children, and teenagers. She can uniquely match jewelry to the personality by using block letters, message beads and Swarovski crystals. Seven Reasons Why You Might Take Hoodia
by leslie kindel - Saturday, May 24 2008, 12:30 AM
Anyone in the world
By Christopher Ruane Good health is all too easily taken for granted until something unexpected happens in life. A drug that solves a typical health problem is seen as a minor miracle for its sufferers. Today's medicinal world is littered with supposedly high benefit drugs that proclaim a lot about obesity reduction but do nothing to cure the disease state. We are still a long way from being able to provide cures for illnesses. What if at this time, a medicine with effective remedial measures for checking and reducing obesity was discovered? It is time to wonder at an old practice from the ancient tribe of South Africa that used Hoodia the miraculous drug and thus unfolded its miraculous quality. It is astonishing to note that thousands of years of their past practices, is becoming extremely relevant in our world today. With Hoodia Gordonii, there may come a decrease to the production of synthetic weight-reducing medicines. The extract of the plant Hoodia, is currently emerging as the greatest weight-reducing drug with no current known side effects. There are several notable reasons why Hoodia is becoming THE ideal alternative for treating obesity. It is a natural ingredient while the synthetic drugs are usually made from complex chemical reactions that may generate harmful side effects quite apart from the primary benefit. On the other hand, Hoodia products are a concentrate of the extract collected from the mother plant. This is the first reason why Hoodia scores over other drugs, though of course even natural medicines can have problems too. It is effective in reducing weight notably. It works on the appetite of an individual and minimizes it. Now, when normal food intake falls down, the body starts to burn the stored food to release adequate energy. Extra food is stored in the subcutaneous layer as fat that gives the extra weight overweight people carry around. When Hoodia extract is taken, the appetite reduces and the brain gets the feeling that it has taken food. The body thus has to burn out the extra fat to procure the energy needed for its various works. Obesity is also caused by an excessive and unbalanced eating habit. When you take Hoodia, the urge to eat dies down so one can get out of the habit of eating the excess calories that causes the unwanted obesity. It reduces food intake. However if you eat just junk food anyway and no proper natural foods you are quite likely to be overweight and have other problems than obesity such as diabetes and high blood pressure.Taking Hoodia supplements wont change that alone unless you change your eating habits towards healthy foods. Hoodia has a positive effect on the mood of an individual. It is currently termed as a foodstuff rather than a medicine. Many medicines raise the body temperature and increase the rate of perspiration. This can often result in further complexities. Hoodia is thought to be completely safe from such effects. The production of Hoodia is done under Quality Control measures and care is taken to assure good quality. Thus, Hoodia is the most authentic remedy for obesity; efforts are on to enhance its utility further. Exhibit Displays

By Eddie Tobey An exhibit is a form of entertainment, recreation, or competition in which items are showcased to reveal their best features. Exhibits are attended by a large audience and other exhibitors. Exhibits are the things, skills, or services presented and demonstrated. They may be paintings, computers, crafts, foods, products, services, amusement rides and games, and tests of strength and skills. It all depends on the type of exhibit. Exhibit types include art exhibitions, computer expos, film exhibitions, marketing exhibits, museum exhibits, science fairs, state fairs, trade fairs or shows, world exhibitions, traveling exhibits, and sport exhibits. A tradeshow is an exhibit where sellers and buyers meet together for commercial and marketing purposes. Tradeshow exhibits are the products and services showcased and demonstrated by vendors to current or potential customers. Each selling company rents a particular area in the exhibition hall where it establishes its tradeshow exhibit booth. Inside the booth are the displays, the company names and brands advertised, the product and/or service demonstrations, and sales transactions. In the tradeshow, there can be numerous booths, each having a boundary to set it apart from the rest. In front of the booths are aisles where vendors are prohibited since these aisles are intended for the attendees to occupy and walk by. There are also rules and regulations that members of the trade must follow to maintain order and peace in the tradeshow. There are currently 2500 tradeshows held every year in United States alone. Tradeshows are great opportunities for sellers to introduce their products or services to the public and show how these will benefit the customers. If all goes well, the seller will generate sales or make a contact list of potential buyers, which they will use to get in touch with them after the tradeshow event. These tradeshow exhibits also offer buyers the chance to find what they are looking for at reasonable and promotional prices, grab up the giveaways or free samples of exhibited products, join the prize drawings, and participate in the exciting contests offered by companies to make the occasion fun and memorable. The Primitive Middle Age Death Cults Still Exist

By Lance Winslow Where did the idea of international terrorists and suicide bombers come from? Isn't that an incredible waste of human life in the sound and fury of mankind? It is interesting that someone would not value innocent human life or even their own to that degree. These primitive Middle Age death cults need to be curtailed and those people who are involved in the Islamic radical fundamentalism need to be reeducated and those who recruit and promote suicide bombing and the joining of international terrorist organizations need to be stopped. If those who promote such things do so in the name of religion and belief that their religion is protected true freedoms of religion then we need to withdraw all those freedoms in the name of the common good. It is not okay to have a religion, which preaches hate, violence or suicide acts of international terrorism. Religious freedom has obviously been abused to the point that such freedoms can no longer be honored. It is time for mankind to grow up and to wake up and perhaps ditch some of these primitive middle age religious cults and their death squads. It is unacceptable in the present period and if we are to maintain a forward progression of this species we must stop this here and now. Please consider all this in 2006. Lovely Lavender
by leslie kindel - Thursday, May 15 2008, 12:16 AM
Anyone in the world
By Bruce Burnett Who doesnt adore lavender, that lovely blue eradicator of the blues, anger and insomnia? It is generally accepted that the word lavender stems from the Latin lavare, to wash, as the Romans used in the herb extensively in their baths. But in early Latin lavender was known as livendula, meaning, to turn blue, from the same root as our word livid. Lavender has long been used in love potions. The primary market still today for the essential oil is in perfumes and cosmetics. It is also used to scent love notes and clothing, where, in your chest of drawers, it makes an effective moth repellant. Ironically, despite its erotic associations, during the Renaissance it was believed that lavender worn with rosemary would preserve a womans chastity. There are about 30 species of lavender, plus countless hybrids and varieties, far too numerous to list here. But they include both tender and hardy perennials with a great diversity of colors including pinks and whites shapes and heights. Lavender is a mint native to the Mediterranean. Like most herbs it prefers a sunny location in light, dry, rocky soil. It should be pruned lightly in the fall and fairly vigorously in the spring, removing any deadwood. Lavender is a wonderful relaxant and antidepressant. In The Eve of Saint Agnes, John Keats wrote And still she slept an azure sleep, /In blanched linen, smooth, and lavenderd. Lavender essential oil gently rubbed into the temples or the essential oil simmering in water in an aromatherapy lamp will ease you off to sleep and make your headache vanish, especially if its stress related. A lavender eye pillow at the end of a stressful day is far more effectual and healthful than a double martini. Lavender is virtually de rigueur in potpourri. Heres a recipe for Lavender and Geranium Potpourri to add relaxation and romance to any ambience: 4 cups of dried lavender flowers 2 cups of dried rose geranium leaves 2 cups of dried rosemary 1 oz. of orris root 15 20 drops of lavender essential oil. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly and place in a sealed jar. Age at least one month. Shake the jar frequently. Lavender essential oil is antifungal, antiviral and antibacterial with a low level of toxicity, making it one of the few essential oils that can be applied directly to the skin undiluted. Added to the bath it will alleviate muscular pain and tension. As recent as WW1, the oil was used as an antiseptic wound dresser. As with all essential oils, do not take lavender oil internally unless it is strongly diluted. The dried flowers infused as a tea will relieve indigestion, colic, gas and bloating. It is even helpful is some cases of asthma, especially when nervousness is a factor. Recent research shows promise that one of lavenders compounds, perillyl alcohol, may be useful in combating cancer of the breast, pancreas, colon and prostate. In the kitchen lavender blooms are used to flavor vinegars, soups (especially cold fruit soups in the summer), cookies, ice cream and sorbets. This markedly fragrant herb can be used in many ways by creative chefs. Try the following Salmon with Lavender and Fennel: 2 medium sized salmon steaks 1- tsp. dried, crushed lavender flowers 1- tsp. crushed fennel seeds Juice of lemon 1 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil Pinch of salt Mix all the ingredients together and cover both sides of the steaks. Then marinate them in the refrigerator for several hours. Saut over medium to high heat in a non-stick pan until done about six minutes per side. Lavender and lamb make a surprisingly good combination. The following recipe occasions a pleasant change from the usual rosemary and garlic accompaniment. Lavender Lamb with Basil 1 leg of lamb 1 cup of milk (non-dairy such as nut or coconut milk may be substituted) Juice of lemon 8-10 lavender flower heads 8 basil leaves Freshly ground pepper to taste Place the lamb in a tightly-fitting lidded casserole. Mix the remaining ingredients and pour over the lamb. Marinate for several hours, turning the lamb occasionally. Remove from the marinade and bake, uncovered, at 325F for approximately 30 minutes per lb. When the meat is done, strain the marinade, and then make it into gravy by pouring it into a frying pan over a medium-high heat. Reserve about a quarter cup and thoroughly blend in 1 tsp. of arrowroot powder. When smooth, stir into hot marinade and simmer until thick.
