Weigh Yourself Daily in December
by lesli vonck - Monday, June 16 2008, 04:38 AM
Anyone in the world
By Janice Elizabeth Small Nearly every diet advises you not to weigh yourself too often and there's a good reason behind that. Weight fluctuates (sometimes by as much as a pound or two) during the course of a day or from one day to the next and this often has nothing to do with how much fat you've gained or lost. You may find you weigh less in the morning than you do at night - this doesn't usually mean that your body has been releasing pounds of fat while you slept but that you have lost a fair amount of water! Weight gained or lost from one day to the next is generally due to retaining or releasing water too - either due to monthly hormone fluctuations or because you've been eating (or not eating) foods which are high in sodium. If you take too much notice of the figure on the scales you can get unduly depressed by a high reading or overly confident by a low one. But you're just registering the differences caused by the amount of water in your body and not fat. Yet I like to weigh myself daily and here's why. I know that my weight will fluctuate by a pound or two so I don't let small amounts of weight gain or loss bother me. I just carry on weighing myself every morning before I have my shower. I have a magic figure in my head over which I will not let myself get without doing something about it. This is fixed at 2lbs over my ideal weight (2lbs gives those minor fluctuations a chance to balance themselves out). I never have to do much to get back to my ideal weight. I just become a little more selective in my food choices, move a bit more for a week or two and that's it. Losing a pound or two is never as much effort as losing twenty! It has worked for me for the last seven years..... But what if you have a long way to go to your ideal weight. How can daily weighing help you then? Well, it's a great strategy whatever your weight to avoid a backslide. And given that the Christmas season is coming up it's ideal to avoid piling on the pounds in December. Typically people put on between 5 and 10lbs during the party season. You don't have to be one of them! Just note your weight at the start of the month and don't let yourself get more than 2lbs over it! If your weight slips over the 2lb mark, cut back on treats and drinks and make a determined effort to eat healthily and keep up your exercise every day until you're back to where you were. Daily weighing not only gives you a reality check when you've started to indulge a bit too much, it also reminds you every day of your weight loss goals and gives you a reason to stay sensible during the season of festive feasting. And how lovely to wake up in January ready to go forward rather than bitterly regretting how much you let yourself go. How To Beat Depression
by lesli vonck - Monday, June 16 2008, 03:44 AM

By Steve Hill In this article I write about my personal experiences with depression and about how I have learnt to cope and to even eradicate it. I am sure that I am not alone in the fact that I have regular periods of my life when I am depressed, but knowing this fact does not make it any easier for me. I hope you enjoy reading the article. I have recently spoken to my parents about the subject of my depression. My mother has said that she thinks we have some kind of depression gene as most of our family suffer from similar symptoms. I have as recently as last week suffered with a severe bout of this depression, however from it I learnt a valuable lesson. I had been having a bad period in my life where seemingly everything was going wrong. It was one kick in the teeth after each other. I had nothing to look forward to and decided that I needed a night out with my friends. There was one intention that I had in mind which was to get as drunk as possible. The next day I felt really ill and hungover after having a very late night and as planned a huge amount of alcohol. For the whole day I struggled to stay awake and as the day wore on I became more and more depressed. The negative side of my brain had taken over my whole head and it seemed like there was a whole bunch of negative chemicals running through my body. The lesson I have learnt is that is not a good idea to go out drinking alcohol if you are feeling low and depressed. When I was speaking to my parents about my latest period of anxiety and depression, they gave me some interesting and useful advice. They asked me to think about all of the things and aspects of my life that were getting me down. What I then needed to do was to talk about them and to think positive by attempting to find solutions to each of these problems. This is not at all easy to do but is something I now try. I have realised that it is good to talk about our fears and phobias and that there is nothing wrong with admitting that you are stressed and depressed. I hope I will not have to live with these regular bouts of depression for the rest of my life as I have to say I hate it, especially when it means I can not get any sleep during a night, which happens quite regularly for me. I will however look for more ways of beating my depression when it does occur. I now try to think positive in all situations, life is far too short to be always worrying about everything. I have also started to read a lot of self-help books, these have taught me quite a lot of new things and have given me many new ideas. Breakfast Ideas for Busy Mornings
by lesli vonck - Thursday, June 12 2008, 06:36 AM

By Renee Kirchner The lazy days of summer are almost over. Soon kids will be rushing out the door to school and they will need a quick, healthy breakfast. Parents need a healthy breakfast too. Just because you dont have much time doesnt mean you should skip the most important meal of the day. Here are some quick breakfast ideas for busy mornings. TORTILLA WRAPS In the South tortillas are not just for dinner. Breakfast burritos are catching on throughout the country. Why not? They are quick and easy to prepare plus the types of food that you can use to fill them are virtually limitless. The standard breakfast burrito consists of egg, cheese and sausage. You can make your wrap healthier by starting with a whole wheat tortilla and filling it with turkey or chicken, and veggies. This type of breakfast can be heated up in the microwave in just a minute or two and it will fill you up until lunchtime. SMOOTHIES Like tortilla wraps, the variety of smoothies you can make are endless. A basic smoothie consists of milk or yogurt, fruit (your favorite variety), ice, and maybe some extras such as peanut butter or honey. You are only limited by your imagination. The smoothie is portable and healthy. PIZZA Who says that pizza is only for dinner? Pizza making does not have to be a big production. Start with an English muffin and spread a tablespoon of spaghetti sauce on each half. Top with cheese and your favorite pizza toppings. Heat in the toaster oven until the cheese is bubbly. Enjoy! PANCAKES AND WAFFLES MADE EASY Making pancakes and waffles can be time consuming if you make the batter in the morning and have to wait for the waffle iron to heat up. Try making a large batch of either pancakes or waffles over the weekend. Wrap them in individual packages and place in the freezer. Reheat them in the toaster oven on school mornings. LEFTOVERS Dinner leftovers make a great, hearty breakfast for kids and adults. Spaghetti, lasagna, tuna casserole, even meatloaf can be reheated in the microwave quickly in the morning. This type of breakfast is usually high in protein and will stick with you longer than sweet breakfast cereals or sugary donuts. Im sure youve probably tried breakfast for dinner before. Why not try dinner for breakfast? Renee Kirchner is a parent, educator, and freelance writer who specializes in writing for children and parents. How to Revitalize Your Nonprofit's Message
by lesli vonck - Thursday, June 12 2008, 04:42 AM

By Nancy E. Schwartz The human instinct to respond to the new and unusual is something that we as communicators have to work around. How do we best engage our audiences on a subject that's not new a fundraising appeal for an existing program; an overview brochure on a service organization that's been around for fifty years, with pretty much the same focus; or marketing services that we've offered for over a decade? I've been doing a lot of thinking on this issue and was amazed when my rabbi sermonized on the same topic last Saturday. We had just witnessed a wonderful adult bat mitzvah (a Jewish coming of age ceremony, usually undertaken at age 13 but one that can be studied for at any point later in life if it was missed at 13). As a follow-up, the rabbi talked about the power of opportunities (like a bat mitzvah) that enable us to look at things in a new way. He ran through the list of occasions bar or bat mitzvah, new year or month, birthday, anniversary, religious new year as well as changes in job, family, location that enable us to see things differently, to re-orient ourselves. Since such occasions do not always occur naturally, we have to motivate ourselves to look at our organizations or clients in a new way so that we are able to communicate in a fresher (and more relevant) way. Here are a few ways to do so: Put yourself in your listeners' shoes. Think about the background they have and the information they need to understand what you're doing and why it's important to them. Talk to your audiences to get the real story. Convene a focus group and/or interview some of your constituents to ensure that you are aware of their current perspectives on your organization, the work you do, and the field in which you work. Look around at your world be it clean water or women's health and see what's changed and how your organization has responded to those changes. Talk about results, rather than simply describing what you do. Not only can this be a refreshing change, it's also much more meaningful. Review your accomplishments and translate them into crisp, clear copy. Update your communications regularly with current accomplishments. Nancy E. Basics of Weight Balance
by lesli vonck - Saturday, June 7 2008, 11:52 PM
Anyone in the world
By Ken Bendor Some are looking to lose weight and others are looking to gain weight but maintaining weight is usually not talked about a lot. Staying at your target weight is always the end goal. Whether you're trying to gain weight or lose weight, eventually you'll need to stop. Keeping your weight stable is a simple equation similar to losing or gaining. To maintain your weight, you need to eat the same amount of calories that you burn each day. If you start exercising more then you have to eat more calories or else you'll start to lose weight. If you decrease your exercise level then you also have to lower the amount of food you eat or the weight will start to come on. Your first step is to figure out how many calories you burn each day. Use the Daily Calorie Needs Calculator for an estimate. Based on your age, sex, weight, height and activity level, the calculator will give you an approximation of the amount of calories you burn each day. Next, find out how many calories you are eating everyday. Count your calories for three days and take the average. The three days have to be typical of your regular diet. You now have the amount of calories you burn and the number you eat each day. The only step left is to match these two numbers. You have three options to make the equalize the numbers. You can change your activity level (increase of decrease), you can change the amount you eat (increase or decrease) or you can do a combination of the two. Practicing weight balance is about averaging your daily intake and daily expenditure of calories so that they'll match over long periods of time (weeks, months). Don't get caught up in trying to make them equal every single day. Concentrate on doing this over a weekly and monthly basis. One day of over eating won't mess you up but a week or month will. Online Tips To Date A Russian Girl

Anyone in the world
By Mark Murray First: write a good introductory letter In order to write an impressive introductory letter to a woman the man needs to know a few things that would put him in good stand with the lady. It is widely known that you never get a second chance of the first impression.Be honest and provide accurate information about yourself: your name, age, profession, family status.Write about your hobbies and your personality, but try to avoid enumerating commonplace things like traveling, music and animals. If they actually are your hobbies give more details, try to think of something special and original to excite the woman's imagination.Try to make your letter as more personal as possible. Tell her about your mood, about how was your day. Tell her some touching story from your life.Do not be shy to demonstrate your interest in the lady. Feel free to ask questions.Compliments You should never forget about them. Actually that is #1 point in our tip list. Compliment her picture. Be sincere from the very start. Let her know what impressed you about her at first sight.Make your letter bright and impressive. Do not forget about jokes. It is important that you sound friendly, optimistic and positive from the very start.Keep your letter short. There is no need to write a novel for 2 or 3 pages. Your letter should occupy a bit more than a half of a standard page. Do not forget to attach your photo.Reply promptly. If you do not have time to reply, send a lady your short note just to notify her that you are busy and will get back on her later. The main tip is be yourself and show her the best parts of your personality.Second: Make a phone call Are you getting nervous before the first telephone conversation with your virtual love? Read our advices. Perhaps, they will help you to get over your nervousness and to feel yourselves as old friends.Try to concentrate and make it impossible something to distract your attention (TV, relatives and even the kids). If you will look aside the woman will think that you are not interested in her.Smile. Though the woman does not see your smile, on the other side of wire she will definitely feel it. The smile will help not only you to feel freer, but it will have the same effect on your interlocutor.Talk on the common topics or the topics you have already discussed. For instance, about the movie you watched recently. Remember what you wrote in the letters. Your telephone conversation should be the natural continuing of the correspondence. It is better to prepare the topics before the conversation, that you would like to discuss, but you should not predict all your phrases and the woman's answers. Just think of the topics that you would like to talk about during the conversation. Maybe, in the beginning of conversation all the thoughts will fly away from your head and the promptings that you wrote will help you a lot.Be honest. It is very easy to get lost in your own words, when you are trying to fill hard minutes of silence not thinking about what you talk. Try not to let that happen. When the minute of farewell will come, you should arrange the next call. You should not arrange the meeting at once. It would be nice if there will be several telephone conversations between you for you both to get to know each other better and to loose the final awkwardness.Third: Personal meeting As you know, everybody has his or her own idea of what is good and bad at the first meeting. But, to tell the truth, slavic standards of good behavior do not differ much from those accepted in the Western countries. At the first meeting you should have a tidy looks and be polite.Do not forget to greet her. There is no need to shake her hand. Just smile, look into her eyes and say "Hi".Do not talk too loud. Listen to her carefully without interrupting. Display your interest in her. Complement her. Just act as a gentleman. Before smoking ask her if she does not mind your smoking.Even if she says something that you find hard to understand, be tolerant and try to understand her. Do not press on her or don't display your aggression. It is unacceptable from the Russian women's point of view to keep silence at the meeting or be indifferent to the lady. Of course, it is essential that you be honest with her.Because lots of Slavic men are inclined to alcoholism, drinking alcohol too much is what may make your woman angry with you. When it comes to the marital life, Russian women value devotion and reliability most. That is why you should demonstrate your partner that she is special to you. Career Moves: Take Charge of Your Life
by lesli vonck - Tuesday, June 3 2008, 07:40 PM
Anyone in the world

By Jo Condrill Every day millions of people let their inner fears stop them from creating the life of their dreams. No one will deny that it is scary to step out of your comfort zone, but once you challenge your fear and take action, you can attain great things. 1. Dream Great Dreams Imagine you could be, do, and have anything you want. How is what you want for your future different from your life today? Once you've identified your dream, you can take the steps to make it come true. 2. Make A Decision In every decision we make, we exert a power to shape and control our own life. Unfortunately, instead of pursuing our own empowerment, we sometimes blame our choices on things that have nothing to do with us. Understand you have power over your personal choices. Notice how your life changes with every decision you make, no matter how small. Take responsibility for your decisions so you can shape your ultimate path. 3. Exercise Your Power To Choose Simply dreaming great dreams will not change your life; rather, it is what you do with these dreams that is important. Sift your dreams, created in your right brain, through the logical sieve of your mind-your left brain. In order to achieve the dream, the left hemisphere has to believe that the dream is within the realm of possibility. Only then can the subconscious mind help us make the dream happen. 4. Form A Support Team Enroll people in your dream who can help you attain it. Many people find it difficult the accept help. They think they should be able to do everything themselves or that they will feel obligated to someone for their assistance. Remember, no person is an island. No one has all the answers and there are many unique ways to pay someone back. Find support early in the process and your journey will be much more fun and rewarding! 5. Keep Score Keep track of your progress and decide if where you are now is where you projected you would be. Learn from your successes and failures and determine what you need to work on to achieve your goals. 6. Establish A Baseline The baseline is where you are now; it is your line of scrimmage. With all you have built, now it is time to move forward. If something interrupts your progress, you will need to evaluate what went wrong, make some adjustments, and start moving again. 7. Know Where The Goal Line Is The goal line is your desired outcome. As you focus on the long-term goal, don't forget the short-term goals. Setting and attaining small goals helps give your self-confidence a boost and keeps you motivated to continue plugging toward your long-term goals. 8. Reward Yourself Kudos from others are great, but it is also important to reward yourself. Commit to paper how you will reward yourself when you reach a certain goal and follow through. Take that exotic vacation you have dreamed about or buy something special to remind you of your success. The thrill of the game of life is charting a course, facing challenges head on, and holding someone else's hand along the way. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Either way, when you focus on the big picture and refuse to let past mistakes keep you down, you create a future that is filled with possibility. So live to the fullest in the present moment and make the most of it to achieve your vision. He Said, She Said: Communicating with the Opposite Sex
by lesli vonck - Friday, May 30 2008, 08:06 AM
Anyone in the world
By Emily Bermes Communication in relationships comes up a lot in personal and professional coaching sessions. In their quests for a fulfilling, successful, accomplished, meaningful lives; my clients have to interact with the opposite sex - it's true. And in doing so, they often get smacked in the head with the differences in communicative style and focus of their opposite sex partner. Not knowing the most fundamental differences in masculine and feminine communication is like trying to speak American English in Ireland. A lot of information will translate; and quite a bit of it won't. So here are the basics. Take what's useful for your own professional development and self-improvement. These tips work at home and on the job. In the most basic sense, men tend communicate by doing things and for the sake of accomplishing a task. They show affection through favors, solving problems, and physical gestures. They also expect to see a tangible outcome from a dialogue. They tend to give advice and share opinions as a gesture of affection...unfortunately women typically find this offensive. Women, on the other hand, tend to communicate for the sake of social connection. They share thoughts and feelings; and see "bonding" as a sufficient and desirable outcome for communication. Women also tend to talk in a really elaborate, detailed verbal pattern. Unfortunately, this drives men nuts. Married people, co-workers, and even opposite sex family members misunderstand each other - this is very common. In fact, "inability to communicate" is the number one reason cited for divorce. The good news is there are ways to improve the communication that takes place between men and women. Here are some simple tips. * Give your partner clues about what you need. Ask simply and directly for the listening and speaking behaviors you are wanting at that time. If you want quiet listening and support, but no advice, just say so. If you want a more succinct account of a situation, ask for it (gently). * Try to interpret your partners communication via their learned rules and tendencies. Their behaviors will not translate correctly if you're using your rules to interpret them. Batman and Wonder Woman do not use the same decoder ring; neither should you. * Resist the temptation to criticize their communication. For a long time society (and even researchers) looked at feminine communication as "right" and masculine as "wrong". The truth is...they both work fine. Criticism will only deepen the divide. * Learn to be bi-lingual. Develop competencies in masculine and feminine communication styles, so that no matter who you talk to, and in what context, you can speak the language that works. Research proves the most successful people do. Here are some other generalizations about the way men and women communicate (these are not blanket truths, just statistical tendencies). Continue learning to interpret your partners communication, ask for what you want/need, and increase your competencies in each communication style. You can indeed bridge the gender gap. Men * Listen while doing something else, and provide advice and/or tactical support * Tend to prefer direct, succinct language that is not very detailed * Tend to be competitive * Men tend to need make up sex before they can 'talk about it' * Show affection by doing things for those they care about * Talk most comfortably while side by side, or while engaged in an activity * Focus on task needs of a situation Women * Tend to listen by nodding, making noises that show they are interested, and by sympathizing * Tend to use elaborate, detailed language * Tend to be cooperative * Need to 'talk about it' before they want to have make up sex * Show affection verbally by sharing thoughts and feelings * Talk most comfortably while sitting face to face, doing nothing else that could interfere with the dialogue * Focus on the social or emotional needs of a situation Emily Bermes is a Certified Personal and Professional Coach and holds a Masters Degree in Business and Professional Communication from Purdue University. Online Dating Success? Look to Your Peers
by lesli vonck - Friday, May 30 2008, 07:43 AM
Anyone in the world
By Jeff Pesarcyk It is largely understandable that many people remain skeptical about the ultimate effectiveness of online dating. After all, it is only fairly recently that the process has been accepted as part of the social mainstream. One notorious line in the film Cruel Intentions refers to the email format as the last bastion of social recluses, and numerous other media have lampooned the process of online dating at one time or another. Needless to say, times have changed, and opinions on this subject have shifted dramatically. An ever-increasing number of Americansand people the world over, for that matterare beginning to view online dating as a legitimate option for romantic success. Part of this is due to the proliferation of internet access in the world today. A study by journalism.org reports that nearly 70 percent of Americans today utilize the internet in some facet. In terms of pure numbers, approximately 137 million Americans reported going online with some frequency during the last year. Of this vast sum, an increasing percentage has turned to the speed and reliability of broadband internet connections versus dial-up, thus streamlining and making more effective their time online. What this means is that, while the number of people going online has plateaued in recent years, those that are connecting are spending more and more time online. Additionally, a greater number of people are using the internet to take care of their business in life. This increased reliance on the internet coupled with the large number of people connecting online has played a huge role in affecting peoples views of services such as online dating. Television and radio advertisements tout the ability of serious online dating sites and their respective personality profiles to effectively pair you up with a serious romantic interest. A steady stream of married couples point to one site or another as a primary reason for their relationships success. Its not in our nature to rely solely on advertisements to form our opinions, however, and ere you place too much stock in the trumpeting of one site or another, it is recommended that you look first to a closer, more reliable source. The large numbers of people both using the internet regularly and frequenting online dating services means that somebody in your life has probably had an experience or two that they can share with you. Perhaps a neighbor met their current spouse via an online service. Maybe a co-worker hooked up with a casual romantic fling in an internet chat room. Regardless of what form it takes, if you take the time to look around and ask a couple of questions, you are likely to find some feedback in regards to the reliability and success of online dating. Online dating has continued to grow and evolve with the increased popularity of the internet. No matter what type of relationship you hope to find, chances are good that you will be able to find a potential romantic match online; the numbers are too vast to expect otherwise. No longer a maligned fringe affair, online dating has become a viable romantic avenue for todays singles. http://www.online-dating-tips-guide.com - Provides advice and tips about online dating.
